Season 10 of Grey’s Anatomy has just started and in true Shonda Rhimes style, we were made to say goodbye to yet another character. I found myself in the same position that I do every week – crying my eyes out. Even though this character (don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil it for those of you who haven’t watched) wasn’t one of my favourites, it was still sad to watch him/her go.

A lot of my doctor friends have criticised this show for its medical inaccuracy but let’s be serious… when the people are this pretty and there’s drama at every turn, who cares if they don’t know their scalpel from their scapula?! It makes for excellent television and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Over the years, these doctors have dealt with one disaster after another sometimes losing one of their own in the process. There has been a train crash. A ferry crash. A roof collapsing. The unforgettable (and for me, the most tragic) mass shooting. A plane crash. A sink hole. And most recently a mud slide. And let’s not forget how this was all peppered with love affairs, jilted brides, cheating, law suits and other personal life dramas too.

To cut a long story short – I think this show is brilliant. I think Shonda is brilliant. And I have no doubt that there will be plenty more disasters to keep us on the edge of our seats in the future. Although I’m devastated that Sandra Oh has decided to leave the show (how can Meredith lose her person?!), I’m excited for the prospect of Kate Walsh coming back as the “leggy and fabulous” Addison Montgomery.

With that, I’m off to go see what else is happening at Sloan Grey Memorial Hospital.

Cue the tears.
